Summary of Bill S 1261
The PASS ID Act, also known as Bill 111 s 1261, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to establish minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. These standards are intended to enhance the security of these documents and prevent identity theft and fraud.
The PASS ID Act requires states to verify the identity of individuals applying for driver's licenses and identification cards by checking their legal status in the United States. States must also verify the authenticity of the documents presented by applicants, such as birth certificates and social security cards.
In addition, the PASS ID Act requires states to incorporate certain security features into their driver's licenses and identification cards, such as digital photographs and biometric data. These features are designed to make it more difficult for counterfeiters to produce fake IDs. Furthermore, the PASS ID Act includes provisions for the sharing of information between states and the federal government to prevent individuals from obtaining multiple driver's licenses or identification cards in different states. Overall, the PASS ID Act aims to improve the security of state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards to protect against identity theft and fraud. It is currently being debated in Congress, with supporters arguing that it is necessary to enhance national security, while opponents raise concerns about privacy and potential discrimination.
