Summary of Bill HR 715
Bill 111 hr 715, also known as the Saguaro National Park Boundary Expansion and Study Act of 2009, was introduced in the 111th Congress on January 27, 2009 by Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona. The purpose of this bill was to expand the boundaries of Saguaro National Park in Arizona and to authorize a study to determine the feasibility of further expanding the park.
The bill proposed adding approximately 2,000 acres of land to the Rincon Mountain District of Saguaro National Park. This expansion would help protect important wildlife habitat and preserve the natural beauty of the area for future generations. Additionally, the bill called for a study to be conducted to assess the potential benefits and impacts of expanding the park further, including the acquisition of additional land.
The bill received bipartisan support in Congress and was ultimately signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 30, 2009. The expansion of Saguaro National Park has since been completed, providing additional protection for the unique desert landscape and diverse plant and animal species found in the area. Overall, the Saguaro National Park Boundary Expansion and Study Act of 2009 was a successful piece of legislation that helped to preserve and enhance one of Arizona's most iconic national parks.
