Summary of Bill S 3284

Bill 118 s 3284, also known as the Veterans Emergency Care Reimbursement Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to ensure that veterans who receive emergency medical care at non-VA facilities are reimbursed for their expenses.

The bill specifies that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) must reimburse veterans for emergency medical services provided at non-VA facilities if certain conditions are met. These conditions include the veteran being enrolled in the VA health care system, the emergency care being provided for a service-connected disability, and the veteran not having received care at a VA facility within the previous 24 months.

Additionally, the bill requires the VA to establish a process for veterans to submit claims for reimbursement and sets a deadline for the VA to process these claims. The bill also includes provisions for the VA to report to Congress on the implementation of the reimbursement program. Overall, the Veterans Emergency Care Reimbursement Act of 2023 aims to ensure that veterans receive timely and appropriate emergency medical care, regardless of where it is provided, and that they are not burdened with financial expenses as a result.
