Summary of Bill HR 760

Bill 118 hr 760, also known as the Chinese Military and Surveillance Company Sanctions Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of imposing sanctions on Chinese companies that are involved in military and surveillance activities. The bill targets companies that are deemed to be complicit in human rights abuses, including those related to the Chinese government's treatment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang.

The bill outlines specific criteria for identifying companies that would be subject to sanctions, including their involvement in the development or production of military equipment or surveillance technology used by the Chinese government. It also calls for the imposition of asset freezes and travel bans on individuals associated with these companies.

Additionally, the bill requires the US government to submit a report to Congress detailing the companies and individuals that have been sanctioned under the legislation. This report would also include information on the impact of the sanctions and recommendations for further action. Overall, the Chinese Military and Surveillance Company Sanctions Act of 2023 represents a bipartisan effort to hold Chinese companies accountable for their role in human rights abuses and to promote transparency in US-China relations.
