Summary of Bill HR 7435
Bill 118 hr 7435, also known as the Autofill Act of 2024, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to address concerns related to online data privacy and security by regulating the use of autofill features on websites and applications.
If passed, the Autofill Act of 2024 would require all websites and applications that offer autofill functionality to obtain explicit consent from users before collecting and storing their personal information. This consent must be given in a clear and easily understandable manner, and users must have the option to opt out of autofill features at any time.
Additionally, the bill would mandate that websites and applications implement robust security measures to protect the personal information collected through autofill features. This includes encryption protocols, regular security audits, and prompt notification of any data breaches that may occur.
Furthermore, the Autofill Act of 2024 would empower the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to enforce compliance with these regulations and impose penalties on any entities found to be in violation of the law. This would help ensure that users' personal information is handled responsibly and securely by online platforms.
Overall, the Autofill Act of 2024 aims to strike a balance between the convenience of autofill features and the protection of users' privacy and security online. It represents a step towards greater transparency and accountability in the digital age, and could have significant implications for how personal information is handled by websites and applications in the future.
