Summary of Bill HR 6586

Bill 117 hr 6586, also known as the GENOCIDE GAMES Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of addressing human rights abuses in relation to the hosting of international sporting events. The bill specifically targets countries that have been accused of committing genocide or other severe human rights violations.

The GENOCIDE GAMES Act proposes that the US government take action to prevent these countries from hosting major international sporting events, such as the Olympics or World Cup. This would include measures such as withholding funding, denying visas to officials involved in the abuses, and encouraging other countries to boycott the events.

The bill also calls for increased transparency and accountability in the selection process for hosting international sporting events, with a focus on human rights considerations. It aims to ensure that countries with a history of human rights abuses are not rewarded with the prestige and economic benefits that come with hosting these events. Overall, the GENOCIDE GAMES Act seeks to use the leverage of international sporting events to hold countries accountable for their human rights record and to prevent them from using these events as a platform to whitewash their image on the world stage.
