Summary of Bill HR 3636
Bill 118 hr 3636, also known as the Put Zombie Donors to Rest Act, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to address the issue of deceased individuals continuing to make political contributions after their death.
The bill aims to prevent these "zombie donors" from influencing elections by requiring political committees to regularly check their donor lists against the Social Security Administration's Death Master File. If a donor is found to be deceased, the committee must promptly refund any contributions made by that individual.
Additionally, the Put Zombie Donors to Rest Act would establish penalties for political committees that fail to comply with these requirements, including fines and potential criminal charges. Overall, this bill seeks to ensure the integrity of the political donation process by preventing deceased individuals from inadvertently contributing to campaigns. It is currently in the early stages of the legislative process and will need to pass both the House and Senate before becoming law.
