Agricultural Security Risk Review Act

This bill expands the membership of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to include the Secretary of Agriculture on all transactions related to the purchase of agriculture land, agriculture biotechnology, and any other transaction related to the agriculture industry in the United States. (The committee reviews the national security implications of certain foreign investments in U.S. businesses or real estate, including critical infrastructure or technologies.)

The Agricultural Security Risk Review Act, also known as Bill 118 hr 3378, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to enhance the security of the nation's agricultural sector by establishing a process for identifying and addressing potential risks to the food supply chain.

Under this bill, the Secretary of Agriculture would be required to conduct a comprehensive review of the security risks facing the agricultural sector, including threats from natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and other potential disruptions. The Secretary would then be tasked with developing a national strategy for addressing these risks and coordinating with other federal agencies, state and local governments, and private sector stakeholders to implement this strategy.

Additionally, the bill would establish a grant program to provide funding for state and local governments, agricultural producers, and other stakeholders to improve the security of their operations. This could include investments in infrastructure, technology, and training to better protect against potential threats. Overall, the Agricultural Security Risk Review Act aims to strengthen the resilience of the nation's food supply chain and ensure that the agricultural sector is better prepared to respond to and recover from security threats. It is currently being debated in Congress and has garnered bipartisan support for its efforts to protect one of the country's most critical industries.
