Veteran Readiness and Employment National Emergency Extended Deadline Act or the VR&E NEED Act

This bill extends a veteran's eligibility for the Veteran Readiness and Employment program when educational institutions are temporarily or permanently closed due to an emergency situation, or there is another reason that prevents a veteran from participating.

Specifically, the period of eligibility must not run during the period the veteran is prevented from participating in the program. The period must resume on a date, determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs, that is not earlier than the first day after the veteran is able to resume participation and not later than 90 days after that day.

The Bill 117 hr 2945, also known as the VR&E NEED Act, aims to improve and expand the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program for disabled veterans. The VR&E program provides education and training services to help veterans with service-connected disabilities prepare for, find, and maintain suitable employment.

The VR&E NEED Act seeks to address several key issues within the current program. It aims to increase access to VR&E services for veterans by expanding eligibility criteria and streamlining the application process. The bill also seeks to improve the quality of services provided to veterans by increasing funding for training programs and enhancing support services.

Additionally, the VR&E NEED Act includes provisions to improve oversight and accountability within the program. It calls for regular evaluations of VR&E services to ensure they are meeting the needs of disabled veterans. The bill also includes measures to increase transparency and reporting requirements to Congress. Overall, the VR&E NEED Act is designed to enhance the support and resources available to disabled veterans through the VR&E program. By expanding eligibility, improving services, and increasing oversight, the bill aims to better serve those who have sacrificed for our country.
