Security Screening During COVID-19 Act

This bill requires the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to implement a plan to enhance security operations at airports during the COVID-19 national emergency in order to reduce risk of the spread of the coronavirus at passenger screening checkpoints and among the TSA workforce.

The TSA may consult with stakeholders and their workforce when developing the plan. Additionally, the TSA is not required to issue or implement the plan upon the termination of the COVID-19 national emergency.

The Government Accountability Office must issue a report on the implementation of the plan within one year after it is issued.

Bill 117 HR 1877, also known as the Security Screening During COVID-19 Act, was introduced in the US Congress to address the challenges faced by security screening personnel during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The bill aims to ensure the safety and well-being of both security personnel and travelers by implementing necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

The key provisions of the bill include:

1. Requiring the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to develop and implement guidelines for security screening procedures that take into account the risks associated with COVID-19. This includes protocols for social distancing, personal protective equipment, and sanitation measures. 2. Providing funding for the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies to support the implementation of these guidelines. This includes items such as masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies. 3. Mandating regular training for security screening personnel on how to effectively implement the new guidelines and protocols. This training will ensure that all staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to protect themselves and others from the virus. 4. Establishing a reporting system for security screening personnel to report any concerns or issues related to COVID-19 safety measures. This will allow for quick resolution of any problems that may arise and ensure that the guidelines are being followed effectively. Overall, the Security Screening During COVID-19 Act aims to prioritize the health and safety of security screening personnel and travelers during the pandemic. By implementing clear guidelines, providing necessary resources, and ensuring proper training, the bill seeks to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission in security screening areas.
