Summary of Bill HR 4155

Bill 118 hr 4155, also known as the Tribal HUD–VASH Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to address the housing needs of Native American veterans by expanding the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program to include tribal communities.

The HUD-VASH program provides housing vouchers and supportive services to homeless veterans, helping them to secure stable housing and access the resources they need to thrive. This bill seeks to extend these benefits to Native American veterans living on tribal lands, who often face unique challenges in accessing affordable housing and support services.

Specifically, the Tribal HUD–VASH Act of 2023 would allocate funding to tribal housing authorities to administer the HUD-VASH program on tribal lands. It would also require the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to collaborate with tribal governments to ensure that the program is effectively implemented and meets the needs of Native American veterans. Overall, this bill aims to improve housing stability and support services for Native American veterans, recognizing the sacrifices they have made in service to their country and the importance of ensuring they have access to safe and affordable housing.
