Changing Age-Determined Eligibility To Student Incentive Payments Act or the CADETS Act

This act modifies the age requirements for the Student Incentive Payment Program, which provides financial support to cadets who attend one of six state maritime academies and commit to a post-graduation service obligation.

Specifically, the act modifies the age requirements to allow older cadets to qualify for the program if they will meet the age requirements for enlistment or commission in the Navy Reserve at the time of their graduation. Current age requirements prohibit cadets older than 25 from participating in the program.

The CADETS Act, also known as Bill 118 s 467, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to establish a program within the Department of Defense (DoD) called the Cybersecurity and Defense Education and Training for Students (CADETS) program.

The CADETS Act aims to address the growing need for cybersecurity professionals in the United States by providing educational and training opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in cybersecurity and defense. The program would be open to students at the high school and college levels, as well as recent graduates.

Under the CADETS Act, the DoD would work with educational institutions and industry partners to develop a curriculum that focuses on cybersecurity and defense-related topics. Students participating in the program would have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through internships, apprenticeships, and other practical training opportunities. In addition to providing educational and training opportunities, the CADETS Act also aims to increase diversity in the cybersecurity and defense fields by encouraging participation from underrepresented groups, including women and minorities. Overall, the CADETS Act seeks to address the growing need for cybersecurity professionals in the United States by providing students with the skills and experience necessary to pursue careers in this important and rapidly evolving field.
