Fairness for Servicemembers and their Families Act of 2023

This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to periodically review and report on the maximum coverage available under the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance and Veterans' Group Life Insurance programs. Specifically, the VA must review such coverage amount every three years, taking into account the percentage increase in the average of the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) for the fiscal year ending during the preceding calendar year compared to the average of the CPI-U for FY2005.

Bill 118 s 1299, also known as the Fairness for Servicemembers and their Families Act of 2023, aims to provide support and protections for members of the military and their families. The bill addresses various issues that servicemembers and their families may face, including financial challenges, employment discrimination, and access to healthcare.

One key provision of the bill is the expansion of financial protections for servicemembers. This includes measures to prevent predatory lending practices targeting military families, as well as provisions to ensure that servicemembers are not unfairly penalized for their service when it comes to credit reporting and debt collection.

The bill also includes provisions to address employment discrimination against servicemembers and their families. This includes measures to protect servicemembers from being discriminated against in the workplace based on their military status, as well as provisions to ensure that military spouses have access to employment opportunities and protections when their families are relocated due to military service. Additionally, the Fairness for Servicemembers and their Families Act of 2023 includes measures to improve access to healthcare for military families. This includes provisions to expand healthcare coverage for military dependents, as well as measures to address issues related to mental health and substance abuse treatment for servicemembers and their families. Overall, the bill aims to ensure that servicemembers and their families are treated fairly and have access to the support and protections they need. By addressing issues related to financial stability, employment discrimination, and healthcare access, the Fairness for Servicemembers and their Families Act of 2023 seeks to improve the quality of life for those who serve our country.
