Right to Eat Authentic and Legitimate Meat Act of 2024 or the REAL Meat Act of 2024

This bill prohibits the use of federal funds to support, directly or indirectly, the production, advancement, or enhancement of cell-cultured meat. Under the bill, cell-cultured meat means meat that is sourced from the cells of animals and artificially produced in a laboratory.

The bill includes an exemption for federal funds of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) that are used for activities related to cell-cultured meat that is intended for off-planet consumption.

Bill 118 hr 8757, also known as the "Cell-Cultured Meat Prohibition Act," aims to prevent the use of Federal funds to support the production and sale of cell-cultured meat. Cell-cultured meat, also known as lab-grown meat, is produced by culturing animal cells in a laboratory setting rather than raising and slaughtering animals for meat.

The bill seeks to prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars to support research, development, or production of cell-cultured meat. Supporters of the bill argue that cell-cultured meat is not a sustainable or ethical alternative to traditional meat production, and that Federal funds should not be used to promote its development.

Opponents of the bill argue that cell-cultured meat has the potential to reduce the environmental impact of meat production, as well as improve animal welfare by eliminating the need for factory farming. They believe that Federal funding should be used to support research and development of this innovative technology. Overall, the Cell-Cultured Meat Prohibition Act is a controversial piece of legislation that highlights the ongoing debate over the future of meat production and the role of government in supporting emerging technologies.
