Save Women’s Sports Act of 2023

This bill requires intercollegiate, intramural, or club athletic teams or sports that are sponsored by a public school or a public college or university or a non-public school or institution receiving federal financial assistance to have three categories based on biological sex at birth: males, females, and coed. The membership of athletic teams or sports designated solely for females shall only be open to biological females at birth. All federal financial assistance shall be terminated for failure to comply.

Bill 118 hr 6728, also known as the Save Women's Sports Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to protect opportunities for female athletes by ensuring that only biological females are allowed to compete in women's sports.

The bill states that in any athletic competition that is designated for females, participants must be classified based on their biological sex as determined at birth. This means that individuals who were born male are not allowed to compete in women's sports, even if they identify as female.

Supporters of the Save Women's Sports Act argue that allowing biological males to compete in women's sports gives them an unfair advantage due to differences in physical strength and athletic ability. They believe that this bill is necessary to maintain a level playing field for female athletes and protect the integrity of women's sports. Opponents of the bill, however, argue that it discriminates against transgender individuals and goes against principles of inclusivity and equality. They believe that all individuals should have the right to compete in sports based on their gender identity, rather than their biological sex. Overall, the Save Women's Sports Act of 2023 is a controversial piece of legislation that raises important questions about fairness, equality, and the rights of transgender individuals in the realm of athletics. It remains to be seen how Congress will ultimately decide on this issue.
