Build the Wall and Fight Fentanyl Act of 2023

This bill establishes accounts to fund the construction of physical barriers along the U.S. southern border and to provide grants to address fentanyl abuse.

These accounts shall be funded from the sale of assets belonging to cartels that have been seized by the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The bill defines cartel as (1) an organization with operations in Mexico and the United States designated as a significant transnational criminal organization; (2) certain named organizations, such as the Sinaloa Cartel and the Juarez Cartel; and (3) other organizations as designated by the President.

Bill 118 hr 4904, also known as the Build the Wall and Fight Fentanyl Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of addressing two key issues facing the country: border security and the opioid crisis.

The bill proposes allocating funds for the construction of a physical barrier along the US-Mexico border, commonly referred to as the "wall." This barrier is intended to enhance border security and prevent illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Additionally, the bill includes provisions for increased surveillance technology and personnel at the border to further strengthen security measures.

In addition to addressing border security concerns, the Build the Wall and Fight Fentanyl Act of 2023 also focuses on combating the opioid crisis. The bill includes measures to increase funding for law enforcement efforts to combat the trafficking of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid responsible for a significant portion of overdose deaths in the United States. Overall, the bill aims to address two pressing issues facing the country by enhancing border security and combating the opioid crisis. Supporters of the bill argue that these measures are necessary to protect national security and public health, while critics raise concerns about the cost and effectiveness of the proposed border wall. The bill is currently being debated in Congress, with both supporters and opponents voicing their opinions on its potential impact.
