Summary of Bill HR 4847
Bill 118 hr 4847, also known as the Safeguarding Syria Sanctions Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of imposing additional sanctions on the Syrian government and its supporters. The bill seeks to hold the Syrian government accountable for its human rights abuses, including the use of chemical weapons and targeting of civilians.
If passed, the Safeguarding Syria Sanctions Act would authorize the President to impose sanctions on individuals and entities that are providing support to the Syrian government, including financial assistance, weapons, or other resources. The bill also calls for the freezing of assets belonging to individuals and entities that are found to be aiding the Syrian government in its oppressive actions.
Furthermore, the Safeguarding Syria Sanctions Act includes provisions for the United States to work with international partners to enforce these sanctions and to coordinate efforts to address the ongoing crisis in Syria. The bill emphasizes the importance of holding the Syrian government accountable for its actions and supporting efforts to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Overall, the Safeguarding Syria Sanctions Act is a bipartisan effort to address the ongoing crisis in Syria and to hold the Syrian government accountable for its human rights abuses. If passed, this legislation would strengthen existing sanctions and provide additional tools for the United States to pressure the Syrian government and its supporters to end their oppressive actions.
