Route 66 National Historic Trail Designation Act
12/16/2024, 7:32 PM
Summary of Bill HR 4338
Route 66, also known as the "Mother Road," was one of the original highways in the US Highway System and played a crucial role in the development of the American West. The highway connected Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California, spanning over 2,400 miles and passing through eight states.
The designation of Route 66 as a National Historic Trail would provide federal recognition and support for the preservation and promotion of the highway's historical significance. This would include the development of interpretive centers, signage, and other resources to educate the public about the history of Route 66 and its impact on American society. Supporters of the bill argue that designating Route 66 as a National Historic Trail would help preserve an important piece of American history for future generations to enjoy and learn from. Critics, however, may raise concerns about the potential costs and resources required to maintain and promote the trail. Overall, the Route 66 National Historic Trail Designation Act seeks to honor the legacy of Route 66 and ensure that its historical significance is preserved and celebrated for years to come.

I don't like this new bill about Route 66. It's gonna mess up my commute and make everything more crowded. Why can't they just leave things the way they are? This is gonna be a big headache for me in the short term.
