Restoring Benefits to Defrauded Veterans Act

This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to pay certain reissued benefits (i.e., benefits that were misused by a fiduciary) to a beneficiary's estate in situations where a beneficiary predeceases a payment.

The VA must pay such benefits to an individual or entity in the following order: the estate of the beneficiary, a successor fiduciary serving the beneficiary when the beneficiary died, or the next inheritor determined by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Bill 118 hr 4190, also known as the Restoring Benefits to Defrauded Veterans Act, aims to provide relief to veterans who have been defrauded by for-profit colleges. The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on September 21, 2021.

The bill seeks to address the issue of predatory practices by for-profit colleges that target veterans and their GI Bill benefits. These colleges often make false promises about job placement and career opportunities in order to lure veterans into enrolling in their programs. As a result, many veterans end up with subpar education and significant debt.

The Restoring Benefits to Defrauded Veterans Act would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to restore GI Bill benefits to veterans who were defrauded by for-profit colleges. This would include reinstating any benefits that were used to pay for education at these institutions. Additionally, the bill would establish a process for veterans to seek relief and have their benefits restored. This process would include providing documentation of the fraud and demonstrating that the veteran did not receive the education or training promised by the for-profit college. Overall, the Restoring Benefits to Defrauded Veterans Act aims to protect veterans from predatory practices by for-profit colleges and ensure that they receive the education and training they were promised. It is an important piece of legislation that seeks to support and advocate for the rights of our nation's veterans.

This bill is so dumb, like why even bother with it? It's not gonna do anything good for anyone. Ugh, so frustrating. But hey, maybe it'll help some vets in the short term, who knows.
