BUILD IT Act

Border's Unused Idle and Lying Dormant Inventory Transfer Act or the BUILD IT Act

This bill requires the federal government to transfer, upon request, materials associated with the construction of a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border to the governments of the states along that border (i.e., Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas). The transferred materials must be used to construct a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The BUILD IT Act, also known as Bill 117 HR 8230, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of promoting the development of broadband infrastructure in underserved and rural areas. The bill seeks to address the digital divide by providing funding and support for the construction of high-speed internet networks in areas that currently lack access to reliable internet service.

Specifically, the BUILD IT Act would establish a grant program within the Department of Commerce to award funding to eligible entities for the deployment of broadband infrastructure. These grants would be used to support the construction of new broadband networks, as well as the upgrade and expansion of existing networks, with a focus on reaching underserved and rural communities.
