Bill 117 HR 8210, also known as the Stop Asian Hate and Discrimination (SAD) Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress aimed at addressing the rise in hate crimes and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States. The bill seeks to provide resources and support to AAPI communities, as well as increase data collection and reporting on hate crimes targeting this group.

The SAD Act includes provisions to establish a grant program to fund community-based organizations that work to prevent hate crimes and discrimination against AAPI individuals. It also calls for the creation of a national hotline for reporting hate crimes and incidents of discrimination, as well as the development of culturally competent training for law enforcement officers to better respond to hate crimes targeting AAPI communities.

Additionally, the bill aims to improve data collection and reporting on hate crimes by requiring federal agencies to disaggregate data on hate crimes by ethnicity, including AAPI individuals. This data will help policymakers and law enforcement agencies better understand the scope of the issue and develop targeted strategies to address it. Overall, the SAD Act is a comprehensive piece of legislation that seeks to address the alarming increase in hate crimes and discrimination against AAPI individuals in the United States. By providing resources, support, and improved data collection, the bill aims to combat hate and discrimination and promote the safety and well-being of AAPI communities.
