Treasury must also develop a plan for the safe and secure destruction and disposal of any biometric information collected or used prior to the enactment of this bill.

Bill 117 hr 6733, also known as the Ban IRS Biometrics Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the United States Congress. The purpose of this bill is to prohibit the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from using biometric data, such as fingerprints or facial recognition, to verify the identity of taxpayers.

The bill aims to protect the privacy and security of taxpayers by preventing the IRS from collecting and storing sensitive biometric information. Supporters of the bill argue that the use of biometrics by the IRS could lead to potential data breaches and violations of individual privacy rights.

If passed, the Ban IRS Biometrics Act would require the IRS to cease any current use of biometric technology and prohibit the agency from implementing any future biometric verification methods. The bill also includes provisions for penalties for any violations of the ban on biometrics by the IRS. Overall, the Ban IRS Biometrics Act is a bipartisan effort to safeguard taxpayer information and ensure that the IRS does not overstep its boundaries in collecting and using biometric data. It is currently under consideration in Congress and has garnered support from both Democrats and Republicans.
