COVID-19 Vaccine Accountability Act

This bill excludes manufacturers of a mandated COVID-19 vaccine from certain liability protections that apply to manufacturers of medical countermeasures (i.e., medical products that may be used to treat, prevent, or diagnose conditions associated with emerging infectious diseases or chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear agents). It also retroactively limits to $10,000 the liability of the United States for a death or injury caused by a COVID-19 vaccine administered on or after January 1, 2020.

Bill 117 hr 6282, also known as the COVID–19 Vaccine Accountability Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to establish a system of accountability and transparency for the development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

The bill requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to submit a report to Congress detailing the progress of COVID-19 vaccine development, including information on clinical trials, manufacturing, and distribution plans. This report must be updated regularly to ensure that Congress and the public are kept informed of the status of vaccine development.

Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary to establish a public database to track the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, including information on the number of doses distributed, the locations where vaccines are being administered, and any adverse reactions reported. This database will help ensure that vaccines are being distributed equitably and that any potential safety concerns are addressed promptly. Overall, the COVID–19 Vaccine Accountability Act aims to increase transparency and accountability in the development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, helping to build public trust in the vaccination process and ensure that vaccines are distributed fairly and safely.
