Taiwan Preclearance Act

This bill requires the Department of Homeland Security to report to Congress on various issues, including (1) a plan for establishing a U.S. Customs and Border Protection preclearance facility in the Indo-Pacific region; (2) an analysis of the feasibility and advisability of establishing a preclearance facility in Taiwan; and (3) an assessment of the impact that a preclearance facility will have on trade, tourism, and the security partnership between Taiwan and the United States.

(Preclearance facilities are stations in designated foreign airports that inspect travelers prior to boarding U.S.-bound flights.)

Bill 117 hr 6212, also known as the Taiwan Preclearance Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to authorize the Secretary of Homeland Security to enter into an agreement with Taiwan to establish a preclearance facility at Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport. This facility would allow travelers flying from Taiwan to the United States to undergo US customs and immigration inspections before boarding their flights, streamlining the entry process upon arrival in the US.

The bill aims to enhance security and efficiency for travelers flying between Taiwan and the US, as well as strengthen the relationship between the two countries. By allowing preclearance in Taiwan, it is hoped that this will lead to smoother travel experiences for passengers and reduce congestion at US airports.

The Taiwan Preclearance Act has received bipartisan support in Congress, with lawmakers recognizing the benefits of such an agreement for both countries. It is seen as a positive step towards improving travel between Taiwan and the US, and fostering closer ties between the two nations. Overall, the Taiwan Preclearance Act seeks to facilitate travel between Taiwan and the US by establishing a preclearance facility in Taiwan, benefiting both travelers and the relationship between the two countries.
