Chinese Military and Surveillance Company Sanctions Act of 2021

This bill requires the President to impose property-blocking sanctions on Communist Chinese military companies upon certain findings.

Specifically, if the President determines that imposing sanctions on a foreign person would address certain threats related to the financing of Chinese Communist military companies, the President must impose sanctions on that person provided that the person is identified (1) as a Communist Chinese military company in a specified report to Congress or in a November 17, 2020, executive order, or (2) by the Department of the Treasury as having engaged in transactions in the publicly traded securities (or derivatives) of a Communist Chinese military company.

Bill 117 HR 5326, also known as the Chinese Military and Surveillance Company Sanctions Act of 2021, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to impose sanctions on Chinese companies that are involved in military and surveillance activities.

The bill specifically targets companies that are known to have ties to the Chinese military or are involved in the development and sale of surveillance technology used to monitor and control the Chinese population. These companies are seen as a threat to US national security and human rights, as their products and services can be used to suppress dissent and violate privacy rights.

If passed, the bill would authorize the US government to impose sanctions on these companies, including freezing their assets, restricting their access to US markets, and prohibiting US citizens from doing business with them. The goal of these sanctions is to deter these companies from engaging in activities that are harmful to US interests and values. Overall, the Chinese Military and Surveillance Company Sanctions Act of 2021 is a bipartisan effort to address the growing threat posed by Chinese companies that are involved in military and surveillance activities. It reflects concerns about the impact of these companies on US national security and human rights, and seeks to hold them accountable for their actions.
