Veterans' Agricultural Apprenticeship Act of 2021

This bill requires the Department of Agriculture to establish a program to make direct loans to farmers and ranchers who will provide mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities for veterans who have not previously operated a farm or ranch.

The Government Accountability Office must report on the effectiveness of the program in assisting veterans in becoming farmers and ranchers.

Bill 117 HR 4552, also known as the Veterans’ Agricultural Apprenticeship Act of 2021, aims to provide opportunities for veterans to pursue careers in agriculture through apprenticeship programs. The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on September 15, 2021, by Representative Antonio Delgado from New York.

The main goal of this legislation is to address the shortage of skilled workers in the agricultural industry by connecting veterans with training and job opportunities in farming, ranching, and other agricultural fields. The bill would establish a grant program within the Department of Agriculture to support apprenticeship programs for veterans in agriculture.

Under the Veterans’ Agricultural Apprenticeship Act, eligible organizations, such as agricultural associations, colleges, and non-profit organizations, would be able to apply for grants to develop and implement apprenticeship programs for veterans. These programs would provide veterans with hands-on training, mentorship, and support to help them transition into careers in agriculture. The bill also includes provisions to ensure that apprenticeship programs meet certain quality standards and provide veterans with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the agricultural industry. Additionally, the legislation aims to increase awareness of career opportunities in agriculture among veterans and encourage more veterans to pursue careers in this field. Overall, the Veterans’ Agricultural Apprenticeship Act of 2021 seeks to support veterans in transitioning to civilian life by providing them with valuable training and job opportunities in the agricultural industry. By connecting veterans with apprenticeship programs in agriculture, the bill aims to help address workforce shortages in the industry while also supporting veterans in finding meaningful and rewarding careers.
