PACT Act of 2021

12/30/2022, 5:32 PM

Pediatricians Accelerate Childhood Therapies Act of 2021 or the PACT Act of 2021

This bill requires the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to make awards to support early-career pediatric researchers. It also provides statutory authority for the Trans-NIH Pediatric Research Consortium to coordinate pediatric research across national health research institutions.

Bill 117 HR 3773, also known as the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act of 2021, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to strengthen existing federal animal cruelty laws by making certain acts of animal cruelty a federal offense.

The PACT Act of 2021 specifically targets acts of cruelty that involve crushing, burning, drowning, suffocating, impaling, or sexually exploiting animals. These acts would be considered federal crimes punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both. The bill also includes provisions for law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute cases of animal cruelty.

Supporters of the PACT Act argue that it is necessary to have federal laws in place to protect animals from abuse and cruelty, as current state laws may not be sufficient. They believe that animals deserve to be treated with compassion and respect, and that those who engage in acts of cruelty should be held accountable. Opponents of the bill may argue that it is unnecessary to have federal legislation on this issue, as animal cruelty is already illegal in all 50 states. They may also raise concerns about the potential impact on individuals who engage in activities such as hunting or farming, which may involve the killing of animals. Overall, the PACT Act of 2021 aims to strengthen protections for animals and ensure that those who commit acts of cruelty are held accountable. It is currently being considered by Congress and may undergo further revisions before potentially becoming law.
